I am a 26 year old with years of experience working with children. I am trustworthy, reliable, and able to form relationships with children.
I am a 26 year old who moved to Australia from England in 2023.

I currently live in a house share with others, including 2 children aged 6 and 9. This means that I have daily experience of looking after children and have formed a good relationship with them while maintaining appropriate boundaries. For example, we have a lot of fun, play games and have dinner together, but they also listen to me when I remind them that something needs doing such as packing away or getting ready for bed. They understand that I am not only there as their friend. I babysit and look after the children on my own on occasion as well.
My previous employment includes a number of child care roles. I have experience working in a nursery with children aged 2-4. I also have worked in a school as a teachers aid with children and young people aged 5-19 with complex disabilities. This has provided me with key skills that can be transferred to working with all children; working at each child's pace, listening to their needs, treating them as individuals, understanding their behaviour and engaging with them meaningfully.
Specific disabilities I have experience with include; autism, blindness, global development delay and Cerebral Palsy. \
I have also had training on manual handling, emergency buccal medication administration and child CPR.
At the moment, I am a casual support worker in the homelessness sector. Although by job is not specifically catered towards working with children, I do come into contact with a lot of children. Due to my role, many of these children are experiencing homelessness and I am able to adapt my work to support them in often scary and uncertain times.

What I love about this work
Getting to know children and building a relationship with them. I love listening to children and being bought into their world, I love seeing a new generation bought up and being involved in that.
